How-to Control Drywood Termites

How-to Control Drywood Termites

Since infestation is through direct contact and not via the ground, the most successful (complete) methods of control are by using fumigation, or local treatment or replacement of the infested wood. Fumigation is recommended if infestations are widespread and/or difficult to access for treating. Local treatment with pesticides or other means is often not prudent where infestations appear to be isolated and accessible.

If the infestation is confined to a piece of furniture, picture frame, etc. which can easily be removed, then it may be treated via heat or cold if practical, or the infested item destroyed. Occasionally the item is placed inside a structure already being fumigated for treatment with the structure.

Localized infestations may be treated via inter-gallery injection or surface treatment with pesticides which are labeled for these termites. There are three materials most often used for treating drywood termites: Boracare, Timbor and Armour Guard
