How to control Carpenter Bee

How-to Control Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bee control consists of treating each individual gallery with an appropriately labeled pesticide. Dusts, wettable powders, microencapsulated, and aerosol residual formulations work best. One of the best ways to treat is by using an aerosol injection system which are probably the most efficient and safest way to treat galleries, especially when on a ladder. Plan to seal the gallery opening , but do not seal the treated gallery for 24-48 hours so that the female has time to be exposed to a lethal dose. Newly matured bees will contact a lethal dose before they can emerge.

Carpenter bees rarely attack painted wood. They can be discouraged from using wood by applying an appropriately labeled repellent material such as one of the pyrethroids, and microencapsulated or wettable powder formulations are best. The wettable powder Demon WP ca be applied on a monthly basis during the months bees are generally seen.  The time of occurrance varies from area to area and preventative spray applications should be made on a monthly basis during these months.
I particularly like the following materials:

  • Demon WP Insecticide
  • Demand CS
  • Delta Dust
